- Sharp criticism of the United Nations and of H.M. Government was voiced by conservative speakers when the house of Commons discussed the recent attack on Katanga. Mr. John Biggs-Davison said that thousands of taxpayers were unwilling to relieve the financial bankruptcy of the U.N until it showed some sense of recovery from its own moral bankruptcy. British financial contributions had done as much towards those undesirable ends as the ammunition which the Admiralty had supplied to the U.N forces or the transport aircraft supplied by the R.A.F.
