Despite frantic efforts by African front-line states of the Namibian issue, it is clear that the momentum in the process for independence in that war-torn country is grinding to a halt. The reason is that the western so-called contact group of nations has more pressing business on its hand, namely poland and the threat of super-power confrontation in Europe. For this reason, Africa must try to maintain the initiative in the search for independence in Namibia instead of waiting upon the contact group to evoke alternative approaches of its own,.
