Upon the discovery of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Sydrome (AIDS) in the United States and Europe, western scientists and medical researchers advanced the viewthat AIDS originated in Africa, a view which was vehemently denied by African governments. Britain announced that she was going to screen nationals of Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana for the AIDS virus before allowing them into the country. Interstingly they did not say that they would subject their nationals returning from these ountries or the United States the same treatment ,which lead African governments to charge that the decision smacked of racism.
