The recent report of the Washington-based ‘population Reference Bureau’ that eastern Africa, which produces only 88 per cent of its food requirements ,is the region with the highest population growth rate of 3.1 per cent is very disconcerting. Kenya being among the individual countries, the population growth rate being a mind-boggling 4.1 per cent- the highest in the world at the current rate. Kenya’s population of 18 million is expected to double in seventeen years.
