Book Bunk is working to restore some of Nairobi’s iconic public libraries. To date, we’ve completed the restoration of the Kaloleni and Makadara branches of the McMillan Memorial Library. In 2021, we begin work on the main branch of the library located in the heart of Nairobi. This digital archive is an integral part of our vision for these libraries. Visit our website for more information.

McMILLAN MEMORIAL LIBRARY

The McMillan Memorial Library is the oldest library in Nairobi and the second oldest in Kenya, it is the only building in Kenya protected by an Act of Parliament; The McMillan Memorial Library Act Cap 217 of 1938 (revised in 2012). The content on this website represents a fraction of the over 100,000 items that live in the library which was initially built in 1931 and whose use was restricted to white settlers until 1962.
